Chateau de Vie: a review

Chateau de Vie is a stunning bed and breakfast property located in Calistoga near Napa. It has always been on my list to stay and we finally did! Established in 1998 this home gives you a unique experience. I loved this property and would highly recommend booking. The price ranges from $270 – $450/ night depending on the time of year you book and what room to select. If you decided to go during high season, I would recommend holding off on tasting all day so you can enjoy the pool!

The Property

We stayed in January so the property didn’t have it’s full potential of beauty but the view was still there. Surrounded by estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard, I can only imagine the view during harvest. The home looks like it was picked out of Italy with lavender gardens, roses and evergreens. Peter, the host, greeted us and showed us to our rooms.

We were traveling with 2 other couples so we had the main house to ourselves. There was a couple staying in the Carriage house but we never saw them. The main house has 4 bedrooms. We stayed in the Queen guest room 1 with an en suite. The bed was comfortable and we had a view of the patio.

The Amenities

Every morning at 7 am coffee and or tea service would be outside your room. It was an experience to walk out to the patio with a warm cup of coffee and the crisp Napa air! The guys enjoyed nursing their hang overs on the patio before breakfast too!

My fav was the hot tub. We would arrive back after dinner and had a bottle of wine waiting for us to enjoy. We were unable to partake in the daily wine and cheese service as we were too busy at tastings but this hit the spot. We also brought home a bottle to add to our collection.

If you visit in during the summer, there is a pool to enjoy as well!!

The Breakfast

Every morning Philipe created an amazing French style breakfast for us with fresh orange juice. We sat in the formal dining room because the January mornings were too cold. I can’t wait to enjoy this breakfast on the patio.

We devoured grilled peaches with cream fraiche, blueberries and almonds or a delicious artichoke frittata with breakfast potatoes.

I absolutely loved staying here and it was worth the price. Yes there are cheaper hotels but if you crave the small intimate feel, I recommend staying here. If you are not an outgoing person or are not traveling with friends, just know you will be with “new” friends!

** Since we stayed in January 2022, the property has been sold to Edward Anthony Luxury Estate but everything looks to be the same.
